The Francis Small Heritage Trust is a non-profit organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The I.R.S. has classified the Trust as a 501(C)(3) organization. All Trust funds and properties are used exclusively for the benefit of the public.
Because the Trust has no office space and only (unpaid) volunteer Directors, over 96% of funds expended are used directly for programs, including educational activities and purchasing, protecting, or supporting the properties. This percentage is higher than most non-profit organizations. Most of our volunteers’ time goes towards educational programs, trail maintenance, and property monitoring.
The financial donations from individuals are multiplied many times over by grants received from foundations and entities such as the Land for Maine’s Future program. These grants are only possible as a result of the support we receive from individual donors. Thank you!
